About
I’m Loren Freed, Head Grant Muse.
I spent more than thirty years in the education field. I taught thousands of young people in preschool through high school, mostly in communities affected by poverty.
Those years of teaching showed me the often untapped potential of children in low-income neighborhoods, whose families lack the resources to help them access a broad range of educational and life opportunities. They made me aware of the disparities that so often made it difficult for kids whose lives were affected by poverty to reach their full potential.
My journey has given me a firsthand look at the ways that appropriate and timely funding can transform lives across diverse communities.
Through the roles of early childhood educator, teaching artist, disability arts educator, environmental educator, community garden founder, and children’s trauma-informed yoga instructor, I’ve seen the power of appropriate and timely funding to:
Provide affordable childcare to working families and enable them to access vital community services
Support children’s cognitive and academic growth
Improve school climate and boost social-emotional learning
Develop arts programming that supported the wellbeing and creative needs of individuals with mixed disabilities
Provide whole-brain, integrative arts experiences to K - 12 students
Conserve green space in urban neighborhoods
Increase access to fresh food for residents of underserved communities
Jumpstart food security initiatives
